Reportedly, govt is considering blocking Viber, Tango, WhatsApp among other apps.
KARACHI (Digital News) – Following recommendations in the session held in Karachi on Wednesday, the government is now considering blocking social media applications including Viber, Tango, WhatsApp, Dunya News reported.
Prime Minister also ordered immediate suspension of illegal sim cards.
The ban on social media applications was sought twice by Sindh government but had dealt with severe criticism. The government is now seriously considering the move again after green signal from Prime Minister during the session.
The high level meeting that took place in Karachi earlier was attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Director General (DG) Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) General Zaheerul Islam, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar among others.
Talking about the issue of illegal sim cards, Chaudhry Nisar said that the issue a complicated problem. He said that the government awaited 3G technology and that Pakistan now has the technology.
He said that strong steps are needed to get rid of illegal sim cards.
Karachi police chief told the session that the crime rate will reduce by 50% if illegal sim cards are curbed. He further said that police is acting indiscriminately against suspects and that there’s no pressure on the police. Dunya news
